Is there any problem with mixing active live cultures from different sources?

I just bought a yogurt maker, and I'd like to make a very low-sugar SUPER yogurt by getting a wide variety of live cultures..

Will different cultures work against each other if I mix for example, Stonyfield Yogurt's 6 cultures (Lactobacillus bulgaricus, Streptococcus thermophilus, Lactobacillus acidophilus,Bifidus, Lactobacillus casei, Lactobacillus rhamnosus) with Acidophilus Pearls from Enzymatic Therapy capsules, with the L. yoghourtii from Nutrimax's Starter Kit at Amazon ?

Also, according to this,

https://www.culturesforhealth.com/expert-advice/Compare_Yogurt_Starters.html

Some cultures cannot be re-used.. i.e. yogurt from last batch can't be used for the culture starter of the next batch. Why?

As a first timer at any Community Kitchen, I found the Queen Anne CC outstanding and just what I was looking for: good food to take home, good recipes, good fellowship, and a marvelous coordinator, Pat, who obviously put in a great deal of time and expertise to make this all happen. Many thanks! I'll be back.

Hi Diana,

Nicely written report. Have you checked out the FoodEssentials Scanner? It's the premier app for finding Healthier Foods - so I thought it relevant to post about it here.

http://foodessentials.com

Basically, you can use it to scan food products (bar-codes) and then learn about the allergen, additive, ingredient and nutrient properties - indicated by a traffic light system too.

You can also scroll through similar products and highlight the ones that best suit your needs. There's a simple list feature to help save the research you've done.

We're very proud of it. And would love to hear what you thought of it.

I love that healthy and sustainable doesn't have to cost more. I had a feeling that this was true in most cases and I really enjoy hearing more and more evidence of that. All it takes is a commitment to cooking from scratch and the willingness to build relationships with producers of whole foods.

Diane,

I am impressed - that seems to be a pretty balanced plan. And the good news would be that purchases such as salt, pepper and oil would be absent from subsequent weeks freeing up space for about $4.60 worth of additional products. Great job in highlighting what is possible.

Thank you for posting these recipes Lesa! This is such an excellent resource for all of us to get some menu ideas for our own cooking adventures. I am excited about the possibility of a CK cookbook in the future.
